About

Western Sydney University has over 49,500 students, providing quality higher education to not just the Sydney region but to students from all over the world. Student recruitment activities are undertaken year-round, and often carried out 1-2 years in advance of the academic year students are expected to enrol in. Highlighted below are some of the key designs I've been involved with in the student recruitment process.

OPen Day campaign

Open day campaign

Project

digital Advertising
Typically a mix of print and digital advertising, due to COVID-19 in 2020, the campaign was delivered completely through the digital medium. I led the project establishing a look and feel based on the prospectus that was then applied across the entire campaign. The digital advertising consisted of animated and static social media ads, animated display ads, eDM, website takeovers, digital screens, and web banners.

Project

event collateral
Western Sydney University’s Open Day is the biggest student recruitment event on the University calendar held at multiple campuses, with over 9,000 people attending the event in 2019. Below are some of the collateral I've designed in support of this event, including programs, banners, signage, and wayfinding.

Prospectus

Prospectus

Project

Publication design
The university prospectus, otherwise known as the Undergraduate Guide, is the key publication produced for student recruitment, containing essential information for prospective students.
For the last five years the prospectus had been relying on the same design template with minor tweaks and updates each year. I approached the 2021 Guide with the aim of a complete redesign that can be can used for years to come. By applying a gradient duotone to the University's branded imagery, I was able to create a contemporary colourful refresh of the images that enhanced the brand colours and photography in a way that was both subtle in its deviance and eye-catching in application.
The new look has been applied to other student recruitment materials to form an overall recognisable body of work targeted towards a younger audience.

Areas of Study

Areas of study

Project

postcard series
Previously, a set of 16 brochures, Areas of Study was re-imagined as a series of easy-to-carry postcards, to encourage more uptake and save on print costs.
Two separate sets were created, as A6 postcards – small and collectable, and A5 bi-fold cards – for more information. The designs maintained the same visual style as the prospectus to form a cohesive look. The postcards feature the University's students from diverse backgrounds, in-line with the University's brand of 'people-first' and 'student-centric'. The use of postcards had a dramatic uptake with the target audience of high school students, saved on print costs in the upwards of tens of thousands of dollars, plus they also looked great as a set.
